“Damascus Revisited’ questions the progression of Arabic design, architecture and the
massive gap caused by a century of political disruptions in the region.
The series follows a process of deconstructing the famous Damascene table by
dismantling the leg base into individual stackable pure forms, transforming the table
into a system generating various items such as a fruit bowl, candle holders, a side
table, a candelabra and a table lamp. The logic for the combinations are borrowed
from the chemical notion of bonding, allowing the end-user to construct a design that
grows with its function. Playfulness is at the center of the table, where each end user is able to create a
relationship with their design piece, one element at a time.
‘Damascus Revisited’ debuted with the original collection blending together a set of
elegant materials composed mainly of marble, walnut and brass.
The collection then evolved to its second edition ‘Damascus Revisited Again – Beirut
Edition’ with the use of more youthful and fresh materials such as colored resin,
gunmetal, painted wood and terrazzo.
The Beirut Edition won the Beirut Design Fair award for Best Product
